This is a singular/linear expression of one of the tributaries that has flowed into the river of what we now call co-design or co-creation. This misses out on the contributions from the Creative Problem Solving community, the urban planning community, the justice, collective action and social change community, and even older movements and non-Western movements around collective decision-making, community care and collective imagination. In the 8 years since this was published, there has been a more visible emergence of this river of co-design, though it has been emerging through these many tributaries for many decades, and even since the beginning of human time. Humanity-centered design has always been co-design. We have only ever made real change when we've done it together.
